Awards

The ESCEO-IOF Young Investigator Awards are given to young investigators for their contributions in the field of bone and mineral research. Twenty awards of 1000€ each will be distributed at the WCO-IOF-ESCEO Virtual Meeting.

Requirements:

• To be born after January 1, 1982
• To be co-author of at least two abstracts submitted to the WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2022 Congress
• Recipients must be connected on the platform during the congress dates (this will be verified).

Deadline:

• The application should be completed before February 15, 2022.
• Abstracts can be submitted until February 15, 2022 on https://www.wco-iof-esceo.org/abstracts
• Application will not be validated if a copy of the two (or more) submitted abstract and a copy of the passport/ID Card are not provided.
• Recipients will be selected based on their abstracts by the ESCEO Scientific Advisory Board during the last week of February and notice will be provided no later than the first week of March 2022.

We have the great pleasure to announce you the call for nominations to the 2022 ESCEO-Islene Araujo de Carvalho Grant. This Grant, of a value of 25.000 Euros, will support a scientific project:

• Conducted in a public health perspective.
• In the field of musculoskeletal health and aging.
• With a global perspective involving scientists from all parts of the world.
• Aiming at a better understanding of the role of physical capacity in healthy aging.

It has been named after Doctor Islene Araujo de Carvalho, former Senior Policy and Strategy Adviser, Department of Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Ageing, at WHO, who passed away, last year, much too early, and leaving all of us in great sadness.

The project should reach the ESCEO Secretariat (esceoasbl@skynet.be) by November 15, 2021. The applications should be limited to a 5-page, A4, typed document explaining the background, the objectives, the methodology and the expected outcomes of the project. Applications should be in English.

The projects will be assessed by:

• Jean-Yves Reginster, President ESCEO,
• Cyrus Cooper, Vice-President ESCEO,
• Olivier Bruyère, CEO ESCEO,
• René Rizzoli, Chair Scientific Advisory Board ESCEO,

with the help of external assessors selected on the basis of their expertise in the field of musculoskeletal health and aging.

The recipient of the 2022 ESCEO-Islene Araujo de Carvalho Grant will be announced by December 15, 2021, and the recipient will be presented with a Medal during the 2022 World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases that will take place virtually from March 24 to March 26, 2022 (https://www.wco-iof-esceo.org/).

The Grant could be extended, at the end of 2022, for an additional one-year term and for the same value, based on a progress report and on a careful and detailed explanation of the tasks remaining to be covered. This report will be submitted to the same Jury as the original application.

The IOF Skeletal Rare Disease Academy Awards are presented to young investigators in recognition of research excellence in the field of skeletal rare bone diseases. Five awards of 1000 USD each will be presented for the best abstracts submitted to WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2022 which provide new insights into the pathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis, or management of rare skeletal disorders.

• The award will be presented at a ceremony during the WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2022 Congress from March 24-26, 2022 (exact date and time to be confirmed).
• The applicant must be the first author of the abstract and must be 40 years old or younger at the time of submission.

The IOF Nutrition Awards are presented to young investigators in recognition of research excellence in the field of nutrition and musculoskeletal health. Five awards of 1000 USD each will be presented for the best abstracts submitted to WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2022 which provide new insights into nutrition and musculoskeletal metabolism or clinical aspects of nutrition and bone health. Research may cover topics such as calcium, vitamin D, protein, micronutrients, and probiotics, among others.

• The award will be presented at a ceremony during the WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2022 Congress from March 24-26, 2022 (exact date and time to be confirmed).
• The applicant must be the first author of the abstract and must be 40 years old or younger at the time of submission.

The WCO-IOF-ESCEO Congress Berlin 2022 is welcomming once again the ESCEO-AgNovos Healthcare Young Investigator Awards. Ten awards of 2.000 Euros will be distributed!

Requirements:

• To be born after January 1, 1982.
• To attend the WCO-IOF-ESCEO Congress 2022 virtually (this will be verified)
• To submit an abstract related to bone strength, bone quality, falls risk, primary or secondary fracture prevention, multi-disciplinary post-fracture care or imaging techniques of the proximal femur, through the official website (https://abstracts.wco-iof-esceo.org) and, before the deadline of February 15, 2022.
• Recipients must be duly registered and participate to the virtual congress (this will be verified).
• The applicant to the ESCEO-AgNovos Healthcare Young Investigator Awards 2022 must click on the below button and fill in the online application form.
• Awards recipients must be the first or presenting author of the abstract.

The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) President's Award honors IOF members from different regions of the world who have made a significant and unstinting contribution to the advancement of the work of the IOF, through furthering one or more of the mission statements and/or goals of the Foundation. Recipients are selected by the IOF President, with the approval of the IOF Executive Committee.

The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) Medal of Achievement honors individual researchers who have significantly advanced the field of osteoporosis through their original and outstanding scientific contributions. The award underlines important aspects of IOF's mission - to increase understanding and awareness of osteoporosis and to promote medical innovation. The IOF Medal of Achievement is presented every year during the WCO-IOF-ESCEO congress. Candidates are nominated by members of IOF's Committee of Scientific Advisors (CSA) and the winner selected by the Chair of the CSA with the approval of the IOF Executive Committee.

The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) Olof Johnell Science Award, named in honor of the late Professor Olof Johnell is awarded every year during the WCO-IOF-ESCEO congress. The Award honors an individual who has contributed to the field of osteoporosis in a scientific or policy implementation area, worldwide. The candidates will be nominated by IOF members and the winner chosen by the IOF Board.

The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) Committee of National Societies Medal honors an individual who has made an important contribution to IOFs Committee of National Societies (CNS) through active participation in CNS activities and by expanding IOF's message and outreach in his/her country. An IOF Committee selects the winner, with the approval of the IOF Executive Committee.

The "ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award" is intended to reward the work of a young researcher, who has already demonstrated his/her scientific merits without having yet reached a prominent academic position. Numerous awards are dedicated to young promising scientists and other honor the "Masters and Mentors" for their overall work. Nevertheless, there is in between a gap, in the recognition of those who represent the next generation of leaders.
